ENZ staffing changes in Washington, D.C
On Friday 27 September Amy Rutherford, our Regional Director – Americas, the Middle East, and Europe and Counsellor (Education), will be finishing after eleven and a half years at ENZ.
Amy started at ENZ in 2013 as an International Market Manager for China. She has been in Washington, D.C. since 2018, having been in Los Angeles prior to that as ENZ’s Director of Education, North America. Prior to working for ENZ, Amy studied in the United States as an undergraduate student and worked for the University of Otago in the North American and European markets, as well as the New Zealand Resident Director for a US study abroad provider, the Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA).
“As a colleague of Amy’s in the International team, I’ve greatly appreciated Amy’s knowledge and expertise and I know she has built of wide network of trusted colleagues across New Zealand’s international education sector,” Acting General Manager Ben Burrowes said.
Ben added, “on behalf of ENZ, it is my privilege to congratulate Amy on an outstanding tenure at our organisation and we wish her well for the next step in her professional career”.

We are delighted that Natalie Lulia, currently Associate Director of Engagement – North America, will step into the role of Acting Regional Director - Americas, Middle East and Europe on Monday 30 September.
"Natalie has been a fantastic addition to ENZ and steps into the role at a particularly important time as we implement our 2024 – 2027 business strategy,” Mr Burrowes said.
Natalie first joined ENZ in October 2023. Prior to ENZ, she was Director – Māori for the Centres of Asia-Pacific Excellence (CAPE) and Strategic Advisor, International Indigenous Development at Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato - University of Waikato. There, she led a team passionate about Māori business capability, Global Citizenship Education and raising awareness to establish meaningful relationships in the Asia-Pacific, particularly with indigenous communities.

ENZ launches China Savvy
Developed by ENZ’s in-market China team in collaboration with New Zealand providers, China Savvy aims to equip New Zealand education providers with insights into Chinese students, best practice for the China market, and practical advice on how to succeed in education business in China.
China Savvy is open to all New Zealand providers via the Skills Lab and includes videos with animated learning and links to various reports and online resources.
Specific lessons include Chinese education customer motivations, presenting to Chinese audiences, planning business trips to China, navigating Chinese meal and gift culture and making the best use of Chinese social media (namely, WeChat) – giving users a rich picture so they can approach the China market with confidence.
ENZ International Market Manager for China, Ross Fisher, anticipates China Savvy will be most suitable for the school sector but says there are plenty of transferable insights for other sectors too.
“We’ve tried to create a ‘blended’ learning experience for international education professionals starting out in China, as well those informed practitioners already operating in the market who are looking for some additional insights into best practice, product development, marketing and the mind of the Chinese education customer.”

New global campaign invites students to discover what New Zealand can teach them
The ‘New Zealand Taught Me’ campaign was launched on 11 August and has started to roll out across key global markets, showcasing the unique value of a New Zealand education through the voices of its alumni.
Real stories with real impact
At the heart of the campaign is a 30-second hero video, backed by a suite of alumni stories that highlight the life lessons and experiences gained while studying in New Zealand.

These stories aim to connect emotionally with globally minded students and their families, showing that learning here goes far beyond the classroom.
Why now?
The campaign is a strategic move ahead of the full launch of a global brand platform for New Zealand international education.
It’s designed to deliver strong results in high-growth markets, replacing the previous ‘Learn New Every Day’ campaign in nine countries: China, India, Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, the USA, and Vietnam.
A welcoming message
ENZ Brand Lead Nick Sinclair said the campaign is a major opportunity for us to present New Zealand as the living and breathing learning destination that is.
“We want to show students how in New Zealand knowledge comes from everywhere.”
“Given the shifting global climate that we are currently seeing with international education, it's a timely opportunity for New Zealand to strengthen its position as a welcoming and inclusive destination.
“The message to students is clear: we’re open, and you’re welcome,” Nick said.
A fresh direction
‘New Zealand Taught Me’ signals a shift toward a more emotionally resonant and globally competitive brand identity. It positions New Zealand as a vibrant, welcoming learning environment where knowledge comes from everywhere, not just the classroom.

The campaign has started to appear across paid digital media, the ENZ Study with New Zealand website, and all communications with prospective students.
ENZ encourages education agents and partners to use the market-specific materials in their promotions.
