  • New AgentLab platform launched to support education agents

    Launched in early August, the new platform features a wide range of relevant information and updates to support education agents and consultants promoting study with Aotearoa New Zealand. This includes a calendar of agent-focused events and webinars, resources, and latest news and updates from across the Aotearoa New Zealand education landscape. 

    In 2022, Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao (ENZ) reviewed its agent engagement programme to ensure its offering for education agents is best placed to support the international education sector’s recovery.  

    ENZ commissioned Edified to research and evaluate its broad agent engagement programme as well as the ENZ Recognised Agency programme. Refreshing the AgentLab platform to offer agents a wider range of information about Aotearoa New Zealand education was among the recommendations of the Edified report. 

    ENZ’s Director – Sector Services, Laura Simpson, said the AgentLab platform’s refresh was guided by a need to better support all education agents, knowing the crucial role they play.  

    “We are developing the AgentLab platform with more tools and resources. We will continue to grow the platform to best serve all agents in their work to support students wanting to study with Aotearoa New Zealand. This helps us ensure that agents have access to accurate information, so they are best placed to drive international student recruitment and support the sector’s post-pandemic recovery.  

    “This is important work given our goal to grow onshore international student numbers. Rebuilding the sector to a thriving, resilient one is a major focus for Aotearoa New Zealand. We know that the relationship between education providers and agents is the primary one. So our job, set out clearly in Focus Area One of the International Education Strategy, is to make sure we support high-quality education agents in recruiting students to Aotearoa New Zealand and supporting the sector’s recovery,” Laura said.  

    The new AgentLab platform is hosted at the same address as the old site at agentlab.enz.govt.nz. It is easily accessed through the single sign-on, MaiENZ portal through which ENZ offers all its digital services to Aotearoa New Zealand’s international education sector. Existing AgentLab users will be able to seamlessly access the new site with their current MaiENZ logins.  

    The discontinuation of the ENZ Recognised Agencies (ENZRA) programme that was announced to the sector and education agents in July was also an outcome of the agent engagement review. All education agents – including former ENZRA agents – will be able to access the same level of information and resources via the AgentLab platform. The discontinuation of the ENZRA programme will not affect this.

    ICEF ANZA gives education providers from Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia the opportunity to meet with top international student recruitment agents from around the world who have a focus on these two study destinations.  

    Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao’s International Event Manager, Janine Huxford said that these conferences are such important events in our sector to bring everyone together and share industry insights, attend workshops and network with our international education peers from all over the world. 

     “We’re delighted that Ōtautahi Christchurch has been announced as the host city for the next ICEF ANZA conference in 2024. This is such a fantastic opportunity to shine a light on our new city and Aotearoa New Zealand as a study destination with world-class study options and unique travel and living abroad experiences", she added.

  • New Zealand academics star in event season in India

    ENZ’s Country Manager for India, Jugnu Roy, leveraged the in-market presence of 14 New Zealand researchers and academics by putting together a third Guest Lecture Series (GLS).

    “The GLS showcases New Zealand’s research strengths across a range of disciplines, particularly STEM, sustainability and nutrition which were of great interest to the audience, and reinforces the quality and global rankings of New Zealand’s universities to prospective students.

    “The GLS was a big undertaking, with 44 lectures across 23 premier Indian institutions – it was very well-received by Indian students and academics.”

    In addition, ENZ put together a high-powered Academic Conclave, attended by New Zealand academics as well as academics, researchers and industry experts from across India. It featured workshops on topics of mutual interest for both countries including smart cities, research collaboration and future-proof education.

    The event was inaugurated by New Zealand High Commissioner Ms Joanna Kempkers, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Delhi Mr Manish Sisodia, as well as a video message by the Human Resource Development of India Mr Prakash Javadekar.“The programme aimed to introduce and progress collaboration opportunities between countries,” said Jugnu.

    The event was inaugurated by New Zealand High Commissioner Ms Joanna Kempkers, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Delhi Mr Manish Sisodia, as well as a video message by the Human Resource Development of India Mr Prakash Javadekar.

  • International Education Strategy 2018 - 30 launched

    “The New Zealand Government sees a strong future for international education in New Zealand,” said Mr Hipkins. 

    “My vision, is for international education to contribute to a strong, sustainable, high-quality education system with a vibrant international focus, and globally connected students, workers and education providers.”

    The International Education Strategy was developed by Government in consultation with international education stakeholders including education providers, international and domestic students, peak bodies and community groups.

    “The new Strategy marks a shift in emphasis from the 2011 Leadership Statement,” said Mr Hipkins.

    “In line with this Government’s commitment to measure success and wellbeing more broadly, you will see a stronger focus on social and cultural outcomes for New Zealand alongside the economic benefits.”

    The International Education Strategy sets out three goals and key actions for government agencies to give effect to the Strategy, as well as measures and indicators for success.

    ENZ General Manager Stakeholders and Communications, John Goulter, and Ministry of Education Senior Manager International Education Policy, Kate West, shared more detail about the Strategy as part of a Government update later in the day. 

    “The Strategy goals include achieving sustainable growth and delivering an excellent education and student experience,” said John. 

    “Developing global citizens – people who can study, work and live across cultural and national boundaries – is also a priority. This relates to students visiting New Zealand but also domestic students benefiting from an international component to their education, onshore or offshore.”

    The International Education Strategy launch followed the announcement of new post-study work rights for international students, by Minister of Immigration Hon Iain Lees-Galloway, on Wednesday.

    Designed to support the vision of the new strategy, the changes reflect a focus on high-quality education, and a clear pathway to residency for those with the skills and qualifications needed in New Zealand.
