    Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao (ENZ) is inviting New Zealand education providers to take part in an initiative to encourage students from Thailand who have previously studied here to return to New Zealand for further study. Providers are invited to subsidise travel for returning students - up to a maximum of NZD $3,000 for students returning for a year or more.  

    The scheme will work by students or agents providing proof of previous study and once the students are in New Zealand, can rebate the air fare back to their account through coordination with their agents. The amount students can rebate is based on the receipt of their booked travel but no more than the $3,000 cap. New Zealand schools who were involved in the recent education events in Thailand gave positive feedback on this concept. 

    ENZ will publicise the initiative online, via agents, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and media. Education agents will also be asked to co-promote this with us while KTC credit card, the scheme’s credit card partner, will be promoting this campaign and additional benefits through their own database and PR channels.

  • NZLC wins fifth Study Travel Star Award

    For the fifth year running, New Zealand Language Centres (NZLC) Ltd has won the Study Travel (ST) Star Award for Star English Language School, Southern Hemisphere.

    The ST Star Awards recognise excellence in the international education industry. The ceremony was held in London earlier this month in front of some 1200 industry representatives from around the world.

    The fifth win marked the induction of NZLC into the ST Super Star Hall of Fame, an unprecedented achievement by a New Zealand based international education provider.

    Miles Stewart, NZLC Co-Director said the win shows that NZLC has the ability to compete and succeed on a global scale and sets benchmark standards for others to follow.  

    “Being recognised by our peers as a Super Star organisation demonstrates that NZLC represents a new way of providing industry-leading education and opportunities for our students and our partner businesses. This is something we continue to be extremely proud of.”

    NZLC beat out the four other nominees in its category: Greenwich English College Australia, Impact English College Australia, Langports English Language College Australia and Languages International New Zealand.

    NZLC is one of the largest English language schools in New Zealand, an NZQA Category 1 school and a member of English New Zealand.

  • Massey University’s virtual exchange programme a first for New Zealand

    The first virtual exchange with the University of North Georgia (UNG) began in the first semester of 2020. It focuses on Defence and Security Studies courses at both institutions. 

    “Students benefit by being able to take unique courses for no additional fees from an overseas partner while continuing their studies at their home institution,” Massey University’s Manager of Student Mobility, Greg Huff, says. “The universities benefit by being able to expand their offering of courses and subject areas, while also building linkages with other international partners.”

    Massey University worked with the Ministry of Education to create New Zealand’s first virtual exchange scheme in 2019, before the effects of COVID-19 began to be felt in the international education sector.

    Huff says the exchange began as a way to expand and enhance its students’ academic experiences. Massey expects the demand for virtual exchange opportunities to grow as tertiary providers around the globe continue responding to changes brought on by the pandemic.

    “As the demand for virtual learning opportunities increases due to COVID-19, this is a great opportunity for an institution with a proven track record in the virtual learning space to show institutions around the world what Massey and other New Zealand providers have to offer.” ENZ’s Director of Engagement in the US, DuBois Jennings.

    Other New Zealand institutions can also benefit by using the structure approved by the Ministry of Education to set up their own virtual exchanges.
