  • Advertising opportunity for Japan’s 2025 New Zealand Study Guidebook

    The KBUNSHA New Zealand Study Guidebook is a trusted publication and is the only one of its kind supported by the New Zealand Embassy in Tokyo and Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao (ENZ). KBUNSHA distributes 20,000 copies of the study guidebook to Japanese schools, universities and education organisations as well as education fairs and seminars.    

    ENZ Business Development Manager – Japan, Tomomi Kontani said advertising here is a great opportunity to leverage an increased demand for information on New Zealand’s education offering.

    “We are continuing to see significant interest in New Zealand as an education destination from students and their parents, schools, and education agents here in Japan” she said.

    “This is a great opportunity to showcase what makes New Zealand unique, especially in the regions. Destination marketing plays a key role in student attraction for a market like Japan with a tourism focus,” Tomomi added.

    The guidebook’s last edition was distributed at the annual student fair and stakeholder focus events hosted by ENZ Japan. The events attracted around 1,000 people. The guidebook remains the main information source ENZ refers to and distributes at upcoming events in 2025.  

    Advertisement rates for individual providers range from approx. $2,560 NZD to $6,120 NZD for guidebook and or website listings. With the ‘Premier Plan’ and ‘Advertorial Plan’, the school logo will be listed on the new scholarship campaign page built by KBUNSHA.   • NZ strengthens education ties in North America

    The visit was an opportunity to form relationships with international ministerial counterparts and key stakeholders, lead and participate in policy dialogue, and promote understanding of Aotearoa New Zealand’s education system and reforms.

    Minister Tinetti began her action-packed week of engagements in Ottawa, Canada where she hosted a round table lunch on international indigenous education at the New Zealand Official Residence. This was attended by Patty Hadju, Minister of Indigenous Services and representatives from Indigenous Services Canada, the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, the Canadian Ministry of Education, the Canadian Bureau of International Education, and Global Affairs Canada.

    In between formal engagements, Minister Tinetti took time to visit York Street Public School where, as a former teacher and Principal, she enjoyed connecting with local students and teachers.

    Following a busy few days in Canada, Minister Tinetti and her delegation moved on to Washington D.C for the International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP). The ITSP conference brings together 22 countries to discuss how to strengthen the teaching profession and ensure all students have access to quality education.

    ENZ’s Director of Engagement, Americas, Middle East and Europe, Dubois Jennings said Minister Tinetti made it clear that New Zealand valued the potential opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration, and her interest in developing these relationships.

    “Minister Tinetti used her time at ISTP to make important connections with other countries, several senior US education officials and experts in specific areas of interest for New Zealand. Those interests include national policies around compulsory education, teacher training, professional development, higher education and vocational training” he said.

    Whilst in Washington D.C, Minister Tinetti also met with China Vice Minister of Education, Chen Jie. This bilateral meeting between New Zealand and China adds to the list of engagements at the Ministerial and Officials level over the past few months adding value to the strong education relationship between our two countries.

    Later in the week Minister Tinetti attended the ANZAC Dawn Service where she had the opportunity to meet with Australia's Minister for Education Jason Clare.

  • International education events July – December 2022

    The calendar includes a mixture of ENZ-run events and commercial and global events, designed to facilitate engagement with students, parents, agents and other stakeholders and show that New Zealand is open for business. 

    It’s exciting to be welcoming the sector back to events in partner countries, and to reconnect in person with students, parents and international education partners.  

    “We are really excited to be bringing back a number of events that our industry partners will be familiar with from before the pandemic,” says Ben Burrowes, ENZ’s Regional Director Asia.  

    “We are looking forward to welcoming industry partners back in country and reconnecting with them face-to-face. It's hugely important for us to be back out here, reassuring everyone that New Zealand is ready to start welcoming international students back to our shores.”  

    In April and May this year, ENZ held several engagement sessions with international education providers and ran a survey to inform decisions. We received positive feedback from the sector that they wanted to see events developed that would enable them to promote their offerings directly to students and other stakeholders in key countries, under the New Zealand education brand.  

    While we have seen international border restrictions soften for many countries, some still have various levels of border restrictions in place – ENZ will continue to monitor this as it could affect future events.

  • Individual applications for PM’s Scholarships for Asia and Latin America now open

    “Following on from the successful group applications, the Prime Minister’s Scholarships for Asia and Latin America are now open to individual applications, and this is the only opportunity for individuals to apply in 2022,” Grant McPherson, Chief Executive, Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao said.

    These scholarships enable talented New Zealanders who are passionate about supporting local and global communities to add an international dimension to their learning and develop their global citizenship competencies and networks.

    “We welcome diverse applicants from all stages and walks of life - you don't need to be a current student, and you don’t need top grades. We are looking for applicants who can display qualities like cultural awareness, initiative, and confidence. Previous scholarship recipients have come from a wide range of backgrounds and have studied in a range of fields, including environmental science, languages, law, the arts, and business.”

    More than 2,400 Kiwis have benefited from the programme since 2013, contributing to New Zealand’s ability to engage with key partners in Asia and Latin America.

    The Prime Minister's Scholarship is open to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who are at least 18 years old at the time of application and have been a resident in New Zealand for at least 12 of the previous 24 months.

    Scholarship funding can be used to cover, for example, tuition fees to undertake a course in Asia or Latin America, flights to and from Asia and Latin America, living and accommodation costs, travel and medical insurance and visa fees.
