  • New Zealand shines at the 35th annual EAIE Conference

    Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao (ENZ), in collaboration with all eight New Zealand universities and UP Education, demonstrated a commitment to international education and partnership. 

    The conference’s theme 'Go Create!' set the tone for a flurry of meetings and engagements between New Zealand representatives and international partners centered on innovation and collaboration in international education. 

    The New Zealand Pavilion proudly unveiled the refreshed Education New Zealand brand, featuring a sleek, modern design that aligns with the iconic New Zealand Government fern. This updated visual identity reflects the quality, ambition, and global impact of New Zealand’s international education offering. 

    The pavilion also showcases imagery from the new global campaign, "New Zealand Taught Me", which highlights how knowledge is nurtured across the country. Through powerful alumni stories, the campaign illustrates the transformative experiences international students gain in New Zealand.

    A key event of the week was the New Zealand networking function, hosted by New Zealand Ambassador to Sweden and the wider Nordic region, HE David Taylor. ENZ representatives and visiting New Zealand institutions utilised the opportunity to connect and share with partners from across Scandinavia.  

    EAIE is one of the most significant global gatherings for international educators, government agencies, and academic leaders. It provided a valuable opportunity for New Zealand education institutions to engage with peers, present their offerings, and foster meaningful partnerships all in one place. 

    ENZ Chief Executive, Amanda Malu, said EAIE was a powerful reminder of the opportunities that lie in international education.  

    " From reconnecting with long-standing partners to exploring new possibilities, the energy and interest in New Zealand education was truly exciting,” she said.

    Prime Minister’s Scholarships for study in Asia and Latin America for 2023-24 announced 

     

    114 New Zealanders receive scholarships to Asia and Latin America

     

    New Zealand’s connections with Asia and Latin America are set to receive a boost with the announcement of 114 individual recipients of the Prime Minister’s scholarships for Asia and Latin America over the next year, Acting Chief Executive for Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao (ENZ), Linda Sissons announced today.   

    The latest round will see scholarship recipients heading to destinations including Japan, Korea, Malaysia, China, India, Viet Nam, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and Chile for study and internship programmes. The individual scholarships follow the group scholarships awards of earlier this year which saw 14 groups of New Zealanders travelling to study in Asia and Latin America.    

    Scholarships have been awarded to recipients from a wide range of regions from around New Zealand, including Rotorua, Taupo, Gisborne, Hastings, Feilding, Tauranga, Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Palmerston North, Christchurch, Dunedin, Riwaka and Oamaru.    

    “The Prime Minister’s Scholarships offer a fantastic opportunity for New Zealanders to foster lifelong connections as they learn and grow their understanding of cultures and business practices across Asia and Latin America”, Acting Chief Executive for Education New Zealand, Linda Sissons said.   

    “The scholarships are awarded to enable recipients to undertake a range of global study opportunities, from language learning and exchange study to internships.  

    “Over the next year, recipients will embark on semester exchanges, medical electives, language immersion and indigenous integration programmes, internships, and research projects in areas such as architecture and healthcare engineering.   

    “The scholarships continue to enable a rich exchange of knowledge, ideas and culture for New Zealanders through reciprocal study opportunities and increase global understanding of the strength and quality of our education system”.

    About the Prime Minister’s Scholarships for Asia and Latin America   

    The Prime Minister’s Scholarship programme aims to strengthen New Zealand’s ability to engage with Asian and Latin American trading partners, improve the internationalisation of New Zealand tertiary institutions​, showcase the strength and quality of New Zealand's education system and grow inter-cultural awareness and connections between New Zealand and other countries.     

    The scholarships offer flexible funding to support both short- and long-term programmes, including study abroad or exchange, internships, postgraduate study, and language programmes.    

    The Prime Minister’s Scholarships are funded by the New Zealand Government and administered by Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao.    

    The Prime Minister’s Scholarships for Asia (PMSA) were launched in 2013 and extended to Latin America (PMSLA) in 2016. To date, 4,155 scholarships have been awarded under the programme.   

    There are two scholarship rounds each year, and applications for the next scholarship round will be open to group applicants in March 2024. Many scholarship recipients are enrolled in tertiary institutions across New Zealand, but this is not a requirement for the scholarship. Any New Zealand citizen or permanent resident over 18 years old can apply for a scholarship.

  • Celebrating the University of Auckland’s 140-year journey in China

    The University of Auckland recently commemorated its 140-year journey in China with a series of events held in six major cities across China, including Beijing, Guangzhou, and Chengdu. The celebrations took place from the 12th to 22nd May and were co-hosted by the University of Auckland, the University of Auckland International College (UP Education) and the University of Auckland English Language Academy. Education New Zealand’s Manapou ki te Ao (ENZ) China based team provided on-the ground support throughout the ten days of events.

    Michael Zhang, ENZ’s Regional Director for Greater China noted the success of the commemorations in showcasing the study experience at New Zealand’s biggest university while fostering connections with agents and prospective students in China.

    “Marking this anniversary milestone for the University of Auckland in China was a special occasion and proved a good opportunity for the University to rebuild international education connections with its Chinese stakeholders, highlighting its programmes and offerings.

    “ENZ enjoyed being part of the celebrations, helping facilitate reconnections, and it was a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness for New Zealand amongst agents and parents. This was the largest New Zealand provider-hosted series of events in the post-Covid era in China,” said Michael.

    Beyond providing updated information about academic programmes, the events also featured inspiring testimonials from alumni in China who shared their study experiences at the University of Auckland. Promoting such narratives helps to further strengthen New Zealand and the University’s reputation and influence in China.

    The resounding success of the events and the positive response from attendees reflect the strong recovery of the international education sector, including for New Zealand as a destination, in China.

  • Market webinar for Schools: Monday 24 July

    Schools are invited to hear from Education New Zealand’s Manapou ki te Ao in-market specialists in Japan, China, Korea, Viet Nam and Thailand on Monday 24 July from 2pm to 4pm (NZT). The team will provide updates on the latest market information, trends and advice. There will also be time for questions. This is good timing for those travelling to events from August to October.
